On Saturday, 31 May, I attended Jean-Marc Fleury’s 80th birthday celebrations, with about 80 others. The event was a gathering of neighbours, friends, and pioneers in French Canadian scientific journalism: among the present were the 1960s young team of scientific journalists at Le Soleil in Quebec City, many of whom moved on to develop the Québec Science magazine, one of the most respected generalist scientific publications in the country. There were even a handful of people who traveled from Europe to attend this party, all associated with the World Federation of Science Journalists that Jean-Marc helped create in 2002.
The event was a very nice testimony to the impact of this IDRC alumnus. In very good shape, with good energy, Jean-Marc seems on a run for a lot more!
